Coronavirus: Two Cases In UK Are Under Specialist NHS Care

Unic Press UK: Chief Medical Officer for England, Professor Chris Whitty has confirmed two cases of Coronavirus in the country. Meanwhile,the Chinese authorities have confirmed 11,791 cases of novel coronavirus as of this morning, 1 February 2020, with 259 deaths and 243 recovered.

In a statement Friday, Professor Whitty said the two patients diagnosed in England are members of the same family. Both patients are receiving specialist NHS care, and “we are using tried and tested infection control procedures to prevent further spread of the virus”, he said.

Whitty reassured the public that the UK is prepared to handle cases of the novel coronavirus given that robust infection control measures are in place to respond immediately. “We are continuing to work closely with the World Health Organization and the international community as the outbreak in China develops to ensure we are ready for all eventualities”, he added.

This dreaded novel coronavirus (nCoV2019 ), which first emerged in Wuhan, China, spreading to the country’s mainland, has been declared an emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).
