COVID-19: China Is Open To Talks With Int’l Community On Debt Relief For African Countries

Unic Press UK: The People’s Republic of China says it would consider formal talks with the International Community over debt relief in light of the enormous economic challenges foisted on the global economy by COVID-19 pandemic.

Reporting on a feedback it received from the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reuters News Agency said the Chinese are aware of calls for a debt relief package for African countries, and that its government is open to discussions with the international community.

Over the years, China has made and is still making significant Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in Africa.

In September 2018, China President, Xi Jinping, who spoke during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) said his administration would make available $60 billion in financial support to Africa of which, part of this money is a credit facility, other side is in the form of grants, and part is interest-free loans and concessional loans.
