Nigeria Election: Presidential Frontrunner Peter Obi Dumps PDP, Seeks Another Platform

Unic Press UK: His Excellency Peter Obi, who has over several months been leading in all the credible polls and predicted to be the next democratically elected Nigerian president, has dumped the main opposition political party People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A few days ago, the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), one of the foremost groups backing Mr Obi’s campaign, issued a statement calling on the People’s Democratic Party to take the right steps based on equity, justice, fairness, and the party’s sacred zoning arrangement.

Marcel Ngogbehei, POSN’s Director of Strategy and Communications and chairman of the Coalition for Peter Obi (COP) in an interview with Arise TV News, said:

“If the PDP is not gonna offer him that seat [presidential ticket], we are asking him to make hay while the sun shines. So, there is still the opportunity for the PDP to do the right thing. What we are looking for is that the [party] delegates and the National Executive Committee and the top echelon of the PDP should realise that they have a beautiful bride in their hands that can get them into Aso Rock [Nigeria’s seat of power].”

The Coalition for Peter Obi (COP), which is independent and self-funded, insisted that the presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, should consider other options if the PDP is not forthcoming with a concrete and fully committed arrangement that puts him on the ballot in the 2023 General Elections as the party’s presidential candidate.

Ngogbehei highlighted that Mr Obi has an organic movement, which is evident in the nationwide rally on 21 May 2022, which had in attendance an estimated 7 million Nigerians marching in all the 36 states of the Republic and FCT Abuja, demanding that the PDP heed to the overwhelming call by Nigerians that Peter Obi is the most credible presidential aspirant at the moment.
