Unic Press UK: Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has reiterated its unequivocal stance in support of the electronic transmission of election results.
In a statement, Position Paper No.1/2021 Electronic Transmission of Election, Saturday, the electoral body reiterated its opposition to the National Assembly position that the INEC bound to get the consent and permission of the National Communication Commission (NCC) and the National Assembly prior to embarking on the transmission of election results via electronically.
INEC emphasises that it has the facilities, structures and processes to ensure electronic transmission of election results, arguing that the subsisting mobile network coverage/facilities and other infrastructure are not inadequate for the purposes of electronic transmission of election results. INEC urged support for electronic transmission to improve the quality and management of election results in the country.
