Legislative Arm Has No Authority To Invite Buhari Over Insecurity – Minister Of Justice

Unic Press UK: Nigeria Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has warned the National Assembly over the House of Representatives summoning President Muhammadu Buhari to appear before the House to explain the mounting insecurity in the country.

In response to the invitation delivered last week to the president by which the House summoned Buhari to appear at a plenary session to discuss the worsened insecurity across the country, Malami said:

“As the Commander-in-Chief, the President has exclusivity on security and has confidentiality over security. These powers and rights he does not share. So, by summoning the President on national security operational matters, the House of Representative operated outside constitutional bounds.”

The lawmakers’ have oversight responsibilities. So it seems that is the basis for inviting the president AFTER criminals murdered/beheaded at least 67 people in a single day last month. The horrific incident took place at Zabarmari in the Jere local government area of Borno State as innocent people were harvesting their produce in a local farm.
