U.S. Joint Congressional Committee Block Inaugural Ceremonies Over Election Dispute

Unic Press UK: Republicans at a meeting of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) voted yesterday, rejecting a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, that the committee affirm that it is preparing for the inauguration of the presumed winner of U..S 2020 Presidential Election. This means they are yet to recognise Joe Biden as president-elect.

In a statement on his official website, Steny Hoyer said: “Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) were joined by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) in blocking the motion, effectively preventing JCCIC from publicly accepting that the upcoming inauguration will be for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris.  Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) and Leader Hoyer voting in favor.”

JCCIC is the congressional committee tasked with overseeing the official inaugural ceremonies at the U.S. Capitol, including the swearing-in and the Congressional receptions immediately following. The committee is composed of three members each from the House and Senate – three Democrats and three Republicans.
