Buhari Should Resign Over Spate Of Killings & Widespread Insecurity – Northern Elders Forum (NEF)

Unic Press UK: The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has reacted to the spate of attacks on innocent people, incessant killings and worsened insecurity in Nigeria, calling on the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, to resign from office, reports the Premium Times.

In a statement on Wednesday, NEFs Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said that the Buhari administration is insensitive to the wanton destruction of lives in the country.

“Under this administration, life has lost its value, and more and more citizens are coming under the influence of criminals. We do not see any evidence of willingness on the part of President Buhari to honour his oath to provide security over Nigerians. In civilised nations, leaders who fail so spectacularly to provide security will do the honourable thing and resign.”

The Northern Elders Forum also denounced the Government’s position as expressed by one of the senior special assistants to President Buhari who seemed to blame the dead farmers during a BBC interview. Garba Shehu told the BBC that the farmer killed in the rice fields did not obtain clearance from the Nigerian military before attending to their farm where they eventually died.

The position of NEF follows another gruesome killing Saturday when the Boko Haram terror group murdered/beheaded at least 67 farmers a rice field situated at Zabarmari, Jere local government area, Borno State.
