Unic Press UK: There have been peaceful protests in several cities, and a hashtag #EndSARS is trending on Twitter, exposing the brutality, reckless assault, and high-handedness of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against civilians in the country.
It all started Thursday, 8 October 2020:

Over the years there have been a series of worrying allegations against the various tactical squads of the Nigeria Police, especially the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad, and many others. They have been accused of brutality, including extrajudicial killings.
Earlier this week, the Nigeria Police chief banned the personnel of all the Tactical Squads’ from carrying out unauthorised routine patrols, stop/search duties, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, mounting of checkpoints, etc., in a move aimed at mollifying aggrieved Nigerians and dousing tensions. Now, it appears his intervention is slow, long overdue, and there are doubts about his readiness to walk the talk given that the protests are still intense after circa 1 week of his intervention.
Three years ago Nigeria’s police chief re-organised SARS after public condemnation about the violence that came with their operations. That change has done nothing for Nigerians and today many are still in danger. #EndSarsProtests

When I was arrested by SARS they separated my friend and I. Then told him they were going to rape and kill me if he didn’t give them all the money in his account. One of the scariest days of my life. We need to end their evil. #EndSarsNow #EndSarsProtests #EndPoliceBrutality
