COVID-19: UK Government Postpones Lockdown Easing In England

Unic Press UK: A plan to further ease the subsisting lockdown measures on 1 August 2020 to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in England, has been postponed.

In a statement Friday, England’s chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, said the decision to postpone additional easing of the ongoing advisory protocol is in light of the continued prevalence of the disease Covid-19.

“I think what we’re seeing from the data from ONS, and other data, is that we have probably reached near the limit or the limits of what we can do in terms of opening up society. So what that means potentially is that if we wish to do more things in the future, we may have to do less of some other things. The idea that we can open up everything and keep the virus under control is clearly wrong”, Whitty said Friday.

The government said the decision to postpone easing measures follows the Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey report that illustrates Covid-19 prevalence for the first time since May; and the fact that some European countries are still “struggling to keep the virus under control”.
