Large Number Of Protesters Call On Mali President To Resign

Unic Press UK: A serious protest of opposition groups in Mali led by imam Mahmoud Dicko is demanding that the country’s president Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta resign over jihadist and inter-communal violence.

President Keita, who was re-elected in 2018 for a second five-year term, has been unable to tame Jihadists, reduce inter-communal violence, and tackle coronavirus, the protesters have alleged.

Reacting to the protest, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on all the parties to exercise utmost restraint and eschew any action that undermines peace, and underlined the importance of dialogue.

Guterres encourages all Malian actors to work inclusively and constructively to preserve the rule of law and respect fundamental rights, the UN News Centre reports.
