COVID-19 Outbreak: United States End Ties With World Health Organization

Unic Press UK: The United States on Friday terminated ties with the World Health Organization (WHO), an agency of the United Nations.

In a statement, President Donald Trump said:

“We will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to worldwide and deserving, urgent global public health needs,” Trump said.

Circa 11 days ago, Trump warned that his administration would permanently end U.S. ties/funding with/for WHO and withdraw membership if the health institution fails to commit/make substantive improvements within the next 30 calendar days. Surprisingly the 30-day ultimatum is yet to lapse, yet ties have been cut.

The Trump administration continues to blame the WHO/China for the COVID-19 pandemic, alleging that this UN agency connives with the People’s Republic of China.

The U.S. president repeatedly blames the WHO handing of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said by the time the world health body declared COVID-19 a pandemic, 4,000 people had died from the disease, and 100,000 infected in more than 100 countries.

In a letter to the WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President Trump said:

It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China. My administration has already started discussions with you on how to reform the organization. But action is needed quickly. We do not have time to waste.
