COVID-19: Quarantine Period Of 14 Days Would “Kill” International Travel – Airlines UK

Unic Press UK: Airlines UK, the industry association representing the UK-registered carriers [British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair, Virgin Atlantic, and several other UK-based airlines] has reacted to a speculation that passengers arriving at UK airports would be compelled to enter a 14-day quarantine period in light of the COVID-19 outbreak in the UK.

“This proposal would effectively kill international travel to and from the UK and cause immeasurable damage to the aviation industry and wider UK economy. Nobody is going to go on holiday if they’re not able to resume normal life for 14 days, and business travel would be severely restricted. It will also make it all but impossible for aviation to resume any time soon, thereby setting back the UK’s economic recovery still further.” (Airlines UK)

The association’s position is a response to the Secretary of State for Transport of the United Kingdom, Grant Shapps, telling the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that a compulsory 14-day quarantine might be imposed on anyone arriving in the country until a time the spread of COVID-19 is under firm control.
