#DasukiGate: PDP’s Olisa Metuh To Serve 7 Years Jail Sentence

Unic Press UK: A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has jailed yesterday a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, for money laundering, with regard to a ₦400,0000 million he (Metuh) illegally received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Metuh was found guilty of fraudulent receipt in November 2014 of 400 Million Naira from the ONSA, and using part of the lucre for the PDP’s political activities and part for personal purposes.

The jail time would be 7 years as it would run concurrently, otherwise he would have had to spend almost a total of 40 years behind bars.

Judge Abang ordered the convict Metuh and his company to refund ₦425 million to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Court’s ruling included that Destra Investment Ltd. – the 2nd defendant – in the case be closed down, and its assets forfeited to the Federal government.

The case, which was filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), lingered for circa 4 years prior conclusion yesterday.

In the course of the trial, there were lots of weird happenings, drama. In one instance in January 2016, the EFCC alleged that Metuh tore up a statement he had voluntarily made in relation to the case as it was presented to him to ink. In February 2018, Metuh arrived the Federal High Court on a medical stretcher. There was another instance, he failed to appear in Court, claiming to be admitted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.
