Kano State To Integrate Almajiri System Into Western Education

August 23, 2019. Voice of Nigeria: The Kano State Governor, Mr Abdullahi Ganduje says his administration is working towards integrating the Almajiri system into the modern western part of education.

Governor Ganduje made this known in Abuja during a working visit to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

He noted that free education should not be limited to basic education but also should be extended to secondary education for the overall benefit of Nigerian child.

“I came to congratulate the minister of education on his reappointment as the head of the education sector in Nigeria”

“We have made a pronouncement that basic education and secondary education will be free and compulsory in Kano state and in order to make it sustainable, we are holding a stakeholders’ summit to that effect.

“The summit will be on how to take care of the out-of-school children of which Almajiri is part of it ,what we want to do is the integration of the Almajiri system into modern western part of education.

The Governor disclosed that curriculum modification will also take place so as to ensure conformity with the National Curriculum.

“We are going to modify the curriculum so that it will tally with the national curriculum that are operating at the moment.” He said.

Ganduje however said that state legislature would be involved to cover the new initiative.
