Shia Cleric, El Zakzaky Leaves India, Returning Home Without Undergoing Medical Care

Unic Press UK: The leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El Zakzaky would be arriving Nigeria soon after leaving a hospital in India where he journeyed on medical grounds, the Premium Times reports.

The Shia cleric, El Zakzaky exited India despite not receiving medical examination/treatment, which is, the primary reason Judge Darius Khobo of the Kaduna High Court granted an application on August 5, 2019 allowing him and his spouse Zeenat to travel to the oversea.

While a video clip on Twitter shows Ibrahim El Zakzaky saying there is a disagreement between the hospital management and his team, the Nigerian government is accusing the cleric of displaying “ulterior motives against laid down procedures.”

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Culture, Grace Gekpe said:

“On August 12, 2019, El-Zakzaky and other members of his entourage went to India via Dubai. He had particularly chosen Medanta Hospital, India. However, on reaching Dubai, El-Zakzaky began to display ulterior motives against laid down procedures. He requested that his passport be handed over to him, but the State officials would not budge to his pressure. The situation became worse in India as he refused to subject himself to preliminary medical checks.”

The government also said that IMN leader, Zakzaky is demanding free movement and insisting that he should be allowed to use a 5-star hotel during his stay in India.

Last month July, the Nigerian government banned the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), a Shi’ite Muslim group, following persistent protests by the group over the detention of its leader, Ibrahim El Zakzaky, who has been in a prison custody since December 2015 despite several Court orders for his release.
