More Troubles For Nigerian Senator As Court Orders Interim Forfeiture Of Assets

Unic Press UK: An order of interim forfeiture of Peter Nwaoboshi’s assets to the Nigerian government has been made by the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, the Premium Times reported Friday.

Senator Nwaoboshi (PDP-Delta North) has 30 days to show proof that his 14 properties and 22 bank accounts have no links to proceeds of crime given the submission made by the federal authorities that the senator has yet to prove that his assets, which are above his legitimate earnings, are not proceeds of corrupt practices.

It was in June 2019 that the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property asked the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation to take further action in this case, in which, Nwaoboshi is alleged to be in possession of assets with a net-worth far/beyond his cumulative legitimate earnings over the years, accusing the senator of obstructing the course of justice by refusing to declare his assets before the presidential panel as required by law.
