Iran Denounces Fresh U.S. Sanctions, Says Dialogue Window Permanently Closed

Unic Press UK: The United States President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy the Islamic Republic of Iran if “anything American” is attacked by Tehran.

In a tweet Tuesday, the U.S. leader said: “…Any attack by Iran on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force. In some areas, overwhelming will mean obliteration…”

Earlier this week, Monday, the U.S. President signed an Executive Order that imposed another round of sanctions against Iran, targeting “(i) the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian Supreme Leader’s Office (SLO); or (ii)  any person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State,” in response to the shooting down last Thursday of a U.S. RQ-4 Global Hawk surveillance drone near Kouh-e Mobarak region in the central district of the Jask County of Iran’s Hormozgan province.

In a tweet written in the Iranian language Perisan, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi said: Boycotting of Iran’s leadership as well as the country’s top diplomat is the permanent closure of the path of diplomacy with the desperate US government. Trump government is destroying all the established international mechanisms for maintaining world peace and security.

Reacting to the latest sanctions, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, owns only a Hosseiniyeh (Shia place of worship) and a simple house. He said: “Iran’s Leader is not like those of other countries, who have billions in an account abroad so you can sanction it, seize it or block it. To sanction him for what? Not to travel to America?,” the Press TV reports..

The relations between the U.S. and Iran has deeply deteriorated since May 8, 2018 when Washington withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, (JCPOA); and imposed sanctions against Tehran. The U.S. is demanding a fresh nuclear deal to replace the JCPOA, but Iran says it won’t re-negotiate.
