Tory Leadership Contest: Boris Johnson Leads In Race To 10 Downing Street After Third Vote

Unic Press UK: A former Mayor of London and Prime Minister hopeful, Boris Johnson has topped the third round of voting Wednesday, inching very close to 10 Downing Street as the Tory leadership contest and the race to replace Prime Minister Theresa May continues.

Mr Boris Johnson emerged winner with 143 votes, thereby adding 17 more Members of Parliament (MPs) to his tally during the second voting. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Jeremy Hunt came second with 54 votes. The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove garnered 51 votes. The Home Secretary, Sajid Javid had 38 votes.

There would be a fourth and fifth round of voting on Thursday.

Tory leadership results

Roy Stewart, who is now eliminated from the contest following the result of the 3rd round of voting, tweeted: “…I didn’t get enough MPs to believe today – but they will I remain deeply committed to you and to this country.”
