Sowere Remains The African Action Congress (AAC) National Chairman – INEC

Unic Press UK: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed that Omoyele Sowere is still the substantive National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) of Nigeria.

In a letter dated May 14, 2019, INEC said: “… the Commission shall continue to recognize and relate with Mr. Sowere Omoyele as the substantive National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC).”

Sowere could not be have been suspended in the absence of any proof that a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was properly constituted/held, INEC underlined in its letter.

It was on Monday that Leonard Ezenwa-led faction of the AAC announced a 6-month suspension of Sowore, accusing the party’s presidential candidate in the General Election 2019 of engaging in anti-party activities, misappropriation of funds, and failing to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

In his initial reaction prior to INEC nullification of his alleged suspension, Sowore said: “These members, led by Leonard Nzenwa, former national secretary, who was suspended for financial impropriety and anti-party activities, have demonstrated by their actions that they have never been, and have never shared the core beliefs that those of us in the African Action Congress hold. Leonard Nzenwa is hereby expelled from the party, and the misguided individuals who participated in the Abuja meeting are suspended from the party until investigations reveal the extent of their involvement,” the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
