African Action Congress (AAC) In Crisis As Faction ‘Suspends’ Sowore

Unic Press UK: The African Action Congress (AAC), one of the newly registered political party that fielded candidates during the Nigeria General Election 2019, is in a serious crisis as the two factions [Ezenwa-led faction  and Sowore-led band] fight over controlling the party.

One faction is led by the party’s presidential candidate in this year’s general election, Omoyele Sowore. The other is spearheaded by Leonard Ezenwa, a former National Secretary of the party, who emerged Monday as acting AAC chairman after a faction of the party held  a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Ezenwa-led faction announced Monday a 6-month suspension of Sowore, accusing the party’s flag-bearer in the General Election 2019 of engaging in anti-party activities, misappropriation of funds, and failing to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Reacting to his alleged suspension from the AAC, Sowore said: “These members, led by Leonard Nzenwa, former national secretary, who was suspended for financial impropriety and anti-party activities, have demonstrated by their actions that they have never been, and have never shared the core beliefs that those of us in the African Action Congress hold. Leonard Nzenwa is hereby expelled from the party, and the misguided individuals who participated in the Abuja meeting are suspended from the party until investigations reveal the extent of their involvement,” the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
