Unic Press UK: Egypt’s House of Representatives has amended Egypt’s 2014 constitution following a vote, altering the political structure of the country.
In its report Tuesday, the Egyptian Street listed the key changes brought in as a result of parliamentary vote:
- A presidential term moves up from four years to six, though a maximum of two-term of office.
- A Senate consisting of 180 members, each member with a 5-year term would be introduced. Two-third of the members will be elected by a secret ballot, while one-third appointed by the President
- “The House of Representatives’ membership will be reduced from 596 members of parliament to 450. At least 25 percent of the House of Representatives must be reserved for women.”
- The President now has powers to appoint one or more deputies – appointing a vice President.
