UPDATED – Onnoghen: Nigerian Lawyers’ To Embark On 2-Day Warning Boycott Of Courts

Unic Press UK: The members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) would embark on a 2-day warning boycott of courts in the country over Nigerian government ‘unconstitutional’ suspension/replacement of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

The warning boycott of Nigerian courts would hold on Tuesday, the 29th January 2019 and Wednesday, the 30th January 2019.

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, had, in a statement issued on Friday last week, announced the suspension of the chief justice of Nigeria, Judge Walter Onnoghen. The president said he relied on an Order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed has already been sworn in as the acting CJN.

By his action, President Buhari ignored an Order of the Appeal Court that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) should maintain a stay of proceedings with regard to the six-count charge against the CJN, Walter Onnoghen.
