Nigeria Election 2019: Court Stops APC From Fielding Candidates In Rivers State

Unic Press UK: Judge Kolawole Omotosho of a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Monday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing any of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members, who are seeking to vie for an elective office in Rivers States during the forthcoming Nigeria Election 2019.

By the ruling of Judge Omotosho, the APC is now legally barred from participating during the House of Assembly, Governorship, House of Representatives and Senatorial elections during the Nigeria Election 2019 that would hold on February 16, 2019.

The judge ruled that the APC primaries – both the direct and indirect primaries that was held by two factions of the party – in Rivers State was an affront to the judiciary and the law of Nigeria as both primaries had been conducted despite an order of court in a case before a High Court in Rivers State.

With regard to the APC factions in Rivers State, one is under the direction of  the minister of transportation, Rotimi Ameachi and another is led by Senator Magnus Abe (APC – Rivers South East).

Reacting to the judgement of the Federal High Court, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Onillu-Isa said the party would study the judgment prior to making a detailed statement.
