I’m In Good Spirits, Says Deji Adeyanju

Unic Press UK: Deji Adeyanju, a political and social media activist, who is being detained at the Kano Central Prison by the Nigerian authorities, has said that he is in good spirits.

“His message to Nigerians is that he is in good in spirit. Although he looks really emaciated, in all he is doing fine. I met him playing football with the inmates,” an associate of Mr Adeyanju, Theophilus Agada told the Premium Times of Nigeria after he met Deji at the Kano Central Prison on Christmas day.

Mr Adeyanju, a notable critic of the current government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, was initially arrested on November 28, 2018, but released after circa 1 week in police custody. He was later rearrested, and has remained in custody thereafter on the orders of a Magistrate Court sitting in Kano.

The Nigerian Police allegations of criminal conspiracy, defamation of character, public nuisance, disturbance of public peace, inciting a public disturbance, threat to public security and safety, breach of law and order against Deji has been decried as politically motivated by Civil Society Organizations, the Senate President Bukola Saraki, a former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode, and many others.
