Brexit: EU leaders & UK Agree Deal During Brussels Summit

Unic Press UK: The European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) have agreed a deal for the UK’s exit from the European institution, says the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

The agreed deal is a 585-page document, which requires the approval of both the UK Parliament and the European Parliament. Whereas it is apparent that the European Parliament would not disapprove a deal inked by the 27-member countries of the EU, an approval by the UK Parliament is not a shoo-in. The EU position is that, in the event that the agreed deal is vetoed by the UK Parliament, there won’t be any further negotiations.

If the UK Parliament approves the deal, this would mean they are ‘all in it together’, thereby giving a conducive space for an orderly Brexit. In the event that they veto it, the UK is still scheduled to leave the European Union on 29 March 2019, though this could mean a situation akin to under water.

The United Kingdom had voted on 23 June 2016 to leave the European Union with 51.8% [more than 17.4 million of the total votes]. Thereafter, on March 29, 2017, the UK Prime Minister Theresa May via a signed letter triggered Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to formally declare that the UK would exit the EU.
