Microsoft Says Democracies Under Threat As Cyberattacks Broaden

Unic Press UK: Microsoft said Monday that democracies around the world are under threat in the light of cyberattacks that disrupt elections and sow discord.

In an article ‘We are taking new steps against broadening threats to democracy‘, which was published on the company’s blog site, the technology giant said that the Internet has become a means for state actors to nick and leak information, and tamper with voting systems as was the case during the 2016 United States general election.

The company also revealed that, last week, their Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) acted on a court order by disrupting of and transferring control of six internet domains created by a group widely associated with the Russian government and known as Strontium, or alternatively Fancy Bear or APT28.

Responding to the allegation, the Russian president’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the allegations are “groundless”.
