Westminster Car Crash: Man Arrested Following Terror Incident

Unic Press UK: The Metropolitan Police says its Counter Terrorism Command is investigating an incident today in Westminster, during which a number of people were injured at  07:37 hrs as a silver Ford Fiesta collided rammed on cyclists and pedestrians, and crashing into barriers outside the Houses of Parliament.

In a statement today, the Metropolitan Police said:

“The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man, who is a UK national, was arrested at the scene by armed officers. He was arrested on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006. A number of people were injured as a result of the collision and they have been taken to hospital. At this early stage none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. At this stage, we are treating this as a terrorist incident and the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is now leading the investigation. Officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or the driver either in the Tottenham Court Road area in the early hours of this morning (14 August), or in the Westminster area from 06:00 hrs today, to contact them on 0800 789 321.”
