Presidency Plead With Nigerian Lawmakers’ To Reconvene

Unic Press UK: The Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, is pleading with the National Assembly leadership to reconvene.

Enang appeal follows the decision of the Nigerian Senate to adjourn plenary until 25 September 2018.

“As the Liason Officer between NASS and the federal government, I know it is not the intention of the Lawmakers to make Nigerians suffer. The NASS vacation is usually planned to coincide with school vacations so that members can spend time with their children. However this is an election year and the budget has just been appended to hence the urgent need to give approval for Supplementary funds for it. We are not compelling them, we are appealling to them. As a liason officer between the Presidency and the NASS, my duty is to make sure that both arms stay together and work in harmony,” Enang said, the Voice of Nigeria reports.

On 24 July 2018, fourteen elected Senators under the platform of the ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to other opposition political parties, thereby causing the party to lose the majority in the upper chamber of the bicameral legislature and creating tensions in the Senate.

The happenings on 24 July is not unconnected to the decision of the Senate Leadership to adjourn to 25 September 2018.
