Court Orders Senator Adeleke To Present His Primary School Certificate

Unic Press UK: Judge David Oladimeji of the High Court, Osogbo, Osun State, has issued an order, compelling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP-Osun west), to present his School Certificate in Court on Wednesday, the 1st August 2018.

The order of the High Court follows a case filed by Oluwaseun Idowu and Rasheed Olabayo, claiming that Adeleke did not meet the requirements stipulated in Section 177 (d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, given that he does not possess a School Certificate.

The plaintiffs also submitted that the gubernatorial primary of the PDP in which the respondent Adeleke emerged as the PDP governorship candidate should be nullified on the grounds that the party’s flag-bearer does not possess a School Certificate.

Section 177 (d) reads: “A person shall be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a State if he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.”
