U.S.-North Korea Summit: Russian Foreign Minister To Visit Pyongyang

Unic Press UK: Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, is scheduled to pay an official visit to North Korea – the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) – on Thursday, the 31 May 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announced today.

The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads: “On May 31, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov will pay an official visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Negotiations are planned for the heads of foreign affairs agencies, during which it is expected to discuss topical issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as exchange views on the situation around the Korean peninsula and other key international and regional issues.”

Lavrov’s scheduled visit to DPRK is probably necessitated by Russia’s desire to communicate its position on the Korean Peninsula imbroglio in the light of the oncoming U.S.-North Korea summit.

During the Primakov Readings international think tank summit in Moscow on Wednesday, Lavrov observed that denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula should be accompanied “by mechanisms to ensure peace and stability throughout Northeast Asia,” RT reported.
