Unic Press UK: The Nigerian government would unravel how the Senate mace was snatched by hoodlums who invaded the Nigerian Senate during its plenary session on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement.
In a statement Wednesday, Mohammed said that the security agencies have been directed to investigate the issue and reinforce security in the National Assembly Complex.
The upper chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral legislature, the Nigerian Senate, was invaded Wednesday by thugs believed to be loyalists of a suspended Senator of the Republic, Ovie Omo-Agege (APC – Delta Central).
The invasion the Nigerian Senate during a plenary session had caused pandemonium in the Senate chambers as the mace, the upper house symbol of authority, was forcefully taken away by thugs.
The Nigeria Police later recovered the mace in the flyover before the City Gate, Abuja.
”Let me therefore confirm to you, my Distinguished Colleagues, that the mace has been recovered and returned by the police.”- Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu
