Benue State Urges Army To Implement Anti-Open Grazing Law

NAN: Benue State Governor, in North Central Nigeria, Samuel Ortom, has urged troops of the “Exercise Cat Race”, deployed to the State to assist in the implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law in the state.

Governor Ortom stated this when he received principal officers of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard Kimbi, who paid him a courtesy call.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on the military troops deployed to the state to stop ongoing killings by Fulani herdsmen, arrest those responsible, chase the invaders from the state and assist in the implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law”, stated Ortom.

The governor appealed to policy makers in the country to adopt international best practices in animal husbandry in line with modernization obtainable in the 21st century.

Governor Ortom commended the management of the University for delivering on its mandate in turning out graduates in various fields but asked that attention be given to practical aspects of agriculture.

He said the State Ministry of Works was attending to the request for the repair of the road connecting the University of Agriculture and other parts of Makurdi town.

Earlier, the delegation had sympathised with the Governor on the current security challenges in the state and donated relief materials for those displaced.

The Vice Chancellor requested for the rehabilitation of the road leading to the institution particularly the three major bridges on it.
