Alex Ekwueme Buried, A University Named After Him

Unic Press UK: The Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (FUNAI), situated in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, has been renamed Alex Ekwueme University, the Vice President of Nigeria Yemi Osibanjo said during the funeral ceremony of Dr Ekwueme.

Ekwueme was born on 21 October 1932. He died on 19 November 2017 in London. Dr Alex Ekwueme was married and he has children.

Alex Ekwueme was the Vice President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983; and a recipient of Nigeria’s second highest national honour ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger’ (GCON).

The Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, who represented the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, said the decision to name a University after Alex Ekwueme marked the recognition by the Nigerian government of the monumental contributions of the late statesman.
