Return Of A ‘Fugitive’, Maina: We Are Not Aware – Nigeria’s Head Of Civil Service

Unic Press UK: The Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Winifred Oyo-Ita, has delivered on President Muhammadu Buhari demand that a detailed report on how/why a ‘fugitive’ Abdulrasheed Maina was reinstated in the Civil Service be submitted to the presidency, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) making a reference to comments made by the President’s special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

President Muhammadu Buhari, obviously responding Monday to public opprobrium over the reinstatement in the civil service of the former head of a presidential task force on pension reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, [who, apart from being sacked from the civil service in 2013, was placed on the wanted list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),] ordered the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to produce a detailed report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall.

The full report submitted to the presidency Monday is not in the public domain at this time, but in a statement Monday, an assistant director of media relations in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Mohammed Manga, said:

“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation wishes to inform the public that the reinstatement and posting of Alhaji Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina never emanated from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Consequently, the purported reinstatement and posting by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation is totally erroneous and misleading.”

On 22 October 2017, the Ministry of Interior had issued a statement, saying that Maina reinstatement in the civil service was executed by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The ministry’s position is contrary to the statement by the OHCSF. In fact, recent revelations from the OHCSF has, arguably, indicted Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, and further tainted the image of the Buhari administration.
