Las Vegas Shooting: State Of Emergency Declared In Clark County, Nevada

Unic Press UK: Following the shooting Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, in which one Stephen Craig Paddock, a 64-year-old white male from Mesquite, Nevada, killed more that 50 people and injured more than 500 others, the Clark County in the U.S. state of Nevada declared a state of emergency Monday.

Excerpts from the statement on ‘Declaration of Emergency’, which was signed by the County Counsel Mary-Anne Miller and the County Manager Yolanda King, reads:

“WHEREAS, a mass casualty incident resulting in nearly 60 deaths and over 500 injuries (to date) occurred on Sunday, October 1, 2017;… and WHEREAS, this tragic event has the unfortunate distinction of being the largest mass shooting incident in United States history; …the County Manager of the County of Clerk does hereby proclaim that under the provisions of the Nevada Revised Statutes… the potential of a state of emergency does exist in the County of Clerk” (Clark County Nevada: October 2, 2017)

On Sunday, an active shooter identified by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as Stephen Craig Paddock, opened fire at concert-goers at circa 10:08 p.m., while lurking on the 32nd floor of a hotel, causing the death of more that 50 people (to date). In the hotel room where the suspect lodged, law enforcement agents found several firearms, including rifles equipped with scopes.

Islamic State, the notorious jihad terrorist group, has claimed responsibility for the shooting. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) refuted ISIS claims, saying that the suspect Stephen Paddock had no ties to any of the international terrorist organizations.

It seems too early to dismiss ISIS claims of responsibility, considering that the gory incident happened barely 48 hours ago, and the high number of casualties calls for a thorough investigation. Perhaps a comprehensive investigation of this sort of incident should take weeks or even months to unravel the motives/sponsor (if any) of the culprit.

U.S. president Donald Trump and former president Barack Obama issued condolence statements on the incident, Las Vegas Shooting, extending sympathies to the victims and families.
