Association Of European Businesses Flays U.S. Sanctions

Unic Press UK: The Association of European Businesses (AEB) flayed the recent sanctions imposed by the United States, urging Heads of States and Governments to work in harmony in order to find “a common, mutually acceptable, solution in the spirit of peace and conciliation.”

In its Press Release on 3rd August 2017, the AEB, which brings together more than 500 companies from the EU and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), said:

“The Association of European Businesses (AEB) expresses its disagreement over US economic sanctions. The Association is convinced that business is one of the most important connecting links between states and people, and the principle of free trade should not be restricted by such measures. The Association calls on the Heads of States and Governments of the EU, the USA and Russia to define a new policy, leaving business out of politics and finding a common, mutually acceptable, solution in the spirit of peace and conciliation.”

A few days’ ago, President Donald Trump, who had told the world that he was coerced by the U.S. Congress to sign a bill ‘Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act’, tweeted that relations between the Russia and the United States “is at an all-time and very dangerous low”.

In a statement on Wednesday relating to the signing of the bill ‘Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act’, U.S. President Donald Trump also said that the bill was “seriously flawed”.

“Today, I signed into law the “Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act,” which enacts new sanctions on Iran, North Korea, and Russia. Since this bill was first introduced, I have expressed my concerns to Congress about the many ways it improperly encroaches on Executive power, disadvantages American companies, and hurts the interests of our European allies. Still, the bill remains seriously flawed – particularly because it encroaches on the executive branch’s authority to negotiate. By limiting the Executive’s flexibility, this bill makes it harder for the United States to strike good deals for the American people, and will drive China, Russia, and North Korea much closer together… I am signing this bill for the sake of national unity.”
