Nigeria: Buhari Will Not Resume Duties Save Doctors Approval

Unic Press UK: Nigeria president Muhammadu Buhari who traveled to London since May 7th 2017 on medical grounds [leaving power under the control of the vice-president Yemi Osibanjo] will not return to presidential duties until his doctors give a clean bill of health.

In a statement by President Buhari’s special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the presidency expressed appreciation to President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, who had called on his people to pray for Buhari’s quick recovery.

“I thank you for your kind and thoughtful action in organizing nationwide prayers for my good health. It is a gesture that I will forever cherish and treasure. Your Excellency will be pleased to hear that I am making good progress, and as soon as doctors advise, I shall return to my duties and continue serving the Nigerian people who elected me and are daily praying for my recovery.” (President Buhari said in a letter to Guinea President Alpha Conde, dated July 24th 2017)

President Buhari’s state of health is unknown to the Nigerian public. Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka had long ago called on the President to disclose his state of health.

Official records show that Buhari is 74-years-old based on a birthday of 17 December 1942. Many intellectuals have questioned whether this was true, saying that he is indeed older given his contemporaries in the Nigerian military.
