FBI Director James Comey Has Been Fired – White House

Unic Press UK: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey has been fired, the White House said.

The sack of the FBI Director was announced on May 09, 2017, in a press release from the Office of the Press Secretary.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office.  President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.

A search for a new permanent FBI Director will begin immediately.”

There had been lots of controversy about James Comey’s leadership of the FBI, especially in the months leading up to the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

July 2016: FBI Director James Comey berated Hillary Clinton over the handling of classified information in an insensitive way, but dismissed calls for a criminal prosecution.

September 2016: FBI released a 58-page document on Hillary Clinton’s email palaver, saying that the former secretary of state, Clinton, had been “extremely careless” in handling sensitive government data by using a personal email server in conducting government businesses.

October 2016: Republicans accused the Obama-led administration of masterminding a script that allowed the FBI to shield/cover-up the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s deliberate misuse of sensitive government communication.

October 2016: The FBI reopened a new investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server to conduct government businesses.

November 2016: Barely two days before the Presidential Election, the FBI exonerates Clinton despite the obvious misuse of government sensitive data.

November 2016: Hillary Clinton blames FBI Director James Comey for election defeat.

January 2017: Donald Trump reacted to the Department of Justice plan to investigate the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for making public – a few days’ prior to the U.S. 2016 presidential election – the outcome of an inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

February 2017: President Trump calls into question the competence of the FBI leadership.

March 2017: Comey ‘confronts’ Trump, says he intends to remain in his FBI post until the end of his 10-year term. He said “You are stuck with me for another six-and-a-half years”.

March 2017: The convoluted issues tow another very serious line.

May 9, 2017: FBI Director James Comey is fired.
