Buhari Travels To London On Health Grounds

Unic Press UK: Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari traveled to London on Sunday night for further medical tests, leaving power under the control of the vice president Yemi Osibanjo.

In a message on Sunday, the 7th May 2017, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina said:

President Muhammadu Buhari proceeds to London tonight for follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.

“He had planned to leave Sunday afternoon, but decided to tarry a bit, due to the arrival of 82 Chibok girls who arrived Abuja earlier in the day.

“The President wishes to assure all Nigerians that there is no cause for worry. He is very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.

“The length of the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President.

“President Buhari has transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of Representatives, in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.


Muhammadu Buhari who rarely appeared in the public after spending circa 50 days [from 19th January 2017 to 10th March 2017]  in the United Kingdom on medical grounds is generally believed to be frail due to his age/current looks.

The president’s state of health is unknown to the Nigerian people. A few days’ ago, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka reiterated his call on the President to disclose his state of health because he is a public property by virtue of the fact that he is the elected president of Nigeria.
