U.S. 2016 Election: Attorney General Recuse From Investigation Into Russia ‘Interference’

Unic Press UK: Attorney General of the United States, Jeff Sessions, on Thursday, announced his decision to recuse from any investigations relating to the alleged interference of the Russian government in the U.S. 2016 presidential election.

“Let me be clear, I never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump campaign. And the idea that I was part of a quote “CONTINUING EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION DURING THE CAMPAIGN BETWEEN TRUMP SURROGATES AND INTERMEDIARIES FOR THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT” is totally false. I have now decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigation of any matter relating in any way to the campaign for the president of the United States.” (Jeff Sessions: 2nd March 2017)

Sessions met twice with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential campaign, but did not disclose it during his confirmation hearing. This non-disclosure seems to be a mortal ‘sin’ to many of the honchos of the U.S. Democratic party.

Demand for Sessions to resign

The U.S. Democratic Party has called on Jeff Sessions to resign. The leading voices calling for a resignation included the House of Representatives minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer.

Sessions is honest – President Trump said

“Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional. This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality. The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total “witch hunt!“” (Trump said on Twitter)
