Brexit: Scottish Parliament Votes Against Invoking Article 50

Unic Press UK: The Scottish government is now officially opposed to invoking Article 50, after its parliament voted on Tuesday, the 7th February 2017, against the steps initiated by the UK government to exit from the European Union.

Scottish Parliament voted 90 to 34 in favour of the Scottish government’s contention that the UK government’s “European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill” should not proceed.

In effect, the Scottish Parliament has ruled that Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon – the text of the rules for exiting from the European Union (EU) – should not be invoked by the UK.

The decision of the Scottish Parliament  is most unlikely to stop the UK government from proceeding with its Brexit process. However, the Scottish government might be compelled to initiate a second Scottish independence referendum if ignored.

No nation state has ever withdrawn from the EU.

After 43 years, the United Kingdom voted on June 2016 to “Leave” the European Union with 51.8% [more than 17.4 million of the total votes].
