Unic Press UK: The Russian government said it expects an apology from Fox News after Bill O’Reilly called the Russian president Vladimir Putin “a killer.”
“We consider the words of the Fox News host unacceptable and insulting. We would prefer to receive an apology to the Russian president from a respected TV station like that” (Press Secretary for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov: 06/02/2017)
During an interview held on 5th February 2017 with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, president Trump reiterated his administration’s preference for an entente [not hostilities] with the Russian government despite that O’Reilly labeled Putin “killer”.
Bill O’Reilly: “Do you respect Putin?”
President Trump: “I do respect him”
Bill O’Reilly: “Why?”
President Trump: “Well, I respect a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get along with him. He is a leader of his country. I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not, and if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and the Islamic terrorism all over the world, that’s a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea.”
Bill O’Reilly: “Putin is a killer?”
President Trump: “A lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What, do you think our country is so innocent?”
