Iran Hit With New Sanctions Over Missile Test, Terrorism, Says U.S.

Unic Press UK: United States, on Friday, the 3rd February 2017, hit Iran with new sanctions for test-firing of a medium-range ballistic missile and for supporting terrorism, said National Security Advisor Michael Flynn in a statement.

Excerpts from Flynn’s statement reads:

“Today, the United States sanctioned twenty-five individuals and entities that provide support to Iran’s ballistic missile program and to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. Iran’s senior leadership continues to threaten the United States and our allies. Examples include the abduction of ten of our sailors and two patrol boats in January 2016, unwarranted harassment of vessel traffic and repeated weapons tests. Just this week, Iran tested a ballistic missile, and one of its proxy terrorist groups attacked a Saudi vessel in the Red Sea. The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate Iran’s provocations that threaten our interests. The days of turning a blind eye to Iran’s hostile and belligerent actions toward the United States and the world community are over.”

Iran insists that its missile test on 29th January 2017 did not violate United Nations Resolution 2231 (2015).

“The recent test has been in line with our [defense] program, and we do not let any foreigner intervene in our defense affairs… The test is in no way in contravention of Resolution 2231… We have always stated that we never abandon developing and reinforcing our defense foundation in line with our interests”, said Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on Wednesday, the 1st February 2017.

U.S. president Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran on his twitter account:
