Ondo 2016 Guber Election: PDP Calls For Cancellation

Unic Press UK: The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

The election was held on Saturday, the 26th November 2016. Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared winner. Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP was runner-up.

The PDP in a statement on Monday, the 28th November 2016, said:

“PDP condemn, reject the outcome of the election, accuses INEC of complicity, calls for cancellation… We have instructed our candidate and the Ondo State chapter of our party to proceed to the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election. We call on the judiciary to redeem Nigeria’s image on this matter as we request for the total cancellation of the election in Ondo State.”

Prior to the PDPs rejection of Ondo State gubernatorial election results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the incumbent governor of Ondo State Olusegun Mimiko, who’s a PDP member had accepted the outcome of the election.

Excerpts of a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State governor, Eni Akinsola, reads:

“It behoves on me as Governor of Ondo State to congratulate the Governor-elect, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and wish him success in the challenging task of governing our dear state… It is incumbent upon me as Governor to facilitate smooth transition between my government and the incoming one. I will, to this end, provide the ambience for a smooth and seamless transition process… I will not waiver in providing needed leadership to our dear state till the last day of my term.”
