Ondo Guber: Jegede Is PDP Candidate, Says Court Of Appeal

Unic Press UK: The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ruled that Eyitayo Jegede is the appropriate gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the election scheduled to hold on Saturday, the 26th November 2016.

While setting aside the ruling of Judge Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Judge Ibrahim Saulaawa, who led two other Justices of the Court of Appeal and read their unanimous decision, said:

“Justice Okon Abang should know that the Constitution and the Electoral Act empower only the national leadership of political parties to nominate political candidates… consequently, the October 14th judgment ruling of the trial court is hereby set aside… With this development, all actions taken by the Sheriff-faction, including the selection of Jimoh Ibrahim as candidate of the party remain illegal and with no effect.”

Nigerian newspaper outfit, Punch says that the chief press secretary to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rotimi Oyekanmi has confirmed that the electoral body would comply with the ruling of the Court of Appeal by upholding Eyitayo Jegede as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the 2016 gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
