Sky News: President-elect Donald Trump says he will keep his promise to deport up to three million illegal migrants from the US.
Interviewed for CBS’s 60 Minutes programme, he said: “What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, probably two million, it could be even three million – we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate.”
Regarding the wall he pledged to build between the US and Mexico during the election campaign, Mr Trump said it might not be made entirely of bricks and mortar, saying: “There could be some fencing.”
He added: “But (for) certain areas, a wall is more appropriate. I’m very good at this, it’s called construction.”
But the Republican leader of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, appeared to be taking a different tack to the President-elect, telling CNN’s State of the Union programme: “We are not planning on erecting a deportation force.
“I think we should put people’s minds at ease.”
