Guardian / Nigeria: Although President Muhammadu Buhari is doing well in the aspect of security, but has fared not too impressively on the economy, according to the secretary of Northern Pentecostal Bishops Forum, Timothy Kume.
Kume, who is also chairman, Benue Pentecostal Bishops Forum and presiding bishop of Faith-Hill Prophetic Assembly, maintained that the present administration needed to do more to salvage the national economy by engaging experts.
Stating that Buhari was ordained to sanitise the polity, the cleric noted: “The truth is that what takes a man unawares does not take Almighty God unawares. God wants to work through Buhari to change the nation for better.”
He urged Nigerians to persevere as their current impasse arose largely from mismanagement and profligacy of the past.
“The problem we are facing today in the country was created by the past regime that did not manage the situation well. We need patience, sacrifice and prayer to mange the situation for the good of the masses,” he appealed.
Kume, however, urged the President to purge his government of unfit people, stressing that over 90 per cent of them were “bad eggs.”
Also yesterday, the Apostolic Presbyter of Christ Global Network (CGN), Bishop Taiwo Akinola, asked government to deal decisively with the prevailing poverty in the land.
The founder of Rhema Christian Church, Sango-Ota told reporters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital that other pressing issues like terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery and assassination equally warranted immediate redress, as they pose serious threat to the peace and unity of the country.
Addressing a press conference on the state of the nation, Akinola, however, commended the government for taking steps to “restore the nation to the path of dignity and self-respect” and urged Nigerians to support the ongoing anti-corruption crusade.
He enjoined Buhari to consider the recommendations of the 2014 national conference report.
“Because the confab is the most recent gathering of Nigerians of various ethnicities and cultural differences and as it is said two heads are better than one, much more about 492 of some of Nigeria’s finest heads. Moreso, the confab was sponsored by taxpayers’ money, thus discarding the report would outrightly mean throwing the millions spent on it down the drain,” he added.
