Leadership / Nigeria: The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the gruesome murder of the paramount ruler of Bokkos people and chairman of Council of Chiefs in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State, His Majesty Saf Ron Kulere, Dah Lazarus Amashin Agai (JP).
The royal father was murdered on Monday along with his son, daughter-in-law, police orderly and another relative by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
The House also directed the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate, fish out and punish the perpetrators of the dastardly act, while security agencies were also directed by the lawmakers to deploy their men to the area to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
The resolutions were unanimously adopted at plenary yesterday, following a motion on the matter sponsored by Hon Solomon Bulus Maren who represents Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency of Plateau State.
Hon Maren had noted that the killing of the 76-year-old monarch was one of the series of killings that had occurred in the area since the advent of this administration.
“First, it was the Makai Forof, Dah Ali Magaji (that was killed) sometime in January 2016. The second was the district head of Manguna, Saf Anjong Adake, who was the secretary to the council of chiefs, Bokkos local government area. And the worst of if, the one that occurred just yesterday (Monday), the head of the council and the paramount ruler of Bokkos people, who was brutally killed by unscrupulous persons,” he said.
Maren lamented that in all the cases mentioned, there had been no security intervention to either stop the killings or bring the culprits to justice.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Caucus in the House of Representatives later addressed a press conference on the incident where they alleged that genocide was being perpetrated against the indigenous people of the state.
They said that with the death of the traditional ruler, who was the longest-serving first-class traditional ruler in Plateau state and paramount ruler of Bokkos people, a significant part of the state had been lost.
“You will agree with me that experience and history of Plateau State has also gone to rest,” Hon Maren said.
For his part, Hon. Timothy Golu described the latest incident as another dimension of terrorism being carried out in Plateau State as part of efforts to wipe out the people of the state.
He, therefore, challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to come out and make a strong statement on the killing.
Another lawmaker from the state, Hon Istifanus Gyang, described Plateau communities as endangered people in Nigeria today.
On his part, Hon Edward Pwajok called on President Buhari to use the powers of his office to ensure the safety of all Nigerians without any bias.
