Court Grants N500m Bail To Former Gov Fintiri Of Adamawa

NAN: A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted bail to former Acting Gov. of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri in the sum of N500 million and two sureties in like sum.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the Spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said in a statement in Abuja that the bail was granted by Justice A. R. Mohammed.

He stated that the court had ruled that the sureties must have landed properties within Abuja and the title documents of the properties and the international passport of the defendant must be submitted to the court registrar.

Uwujaren said “since the defendant has been with EFCC without complaint of defaulting in their counter affidavit, there is no evident reason as to why reservations are harbored this time.

“The court has not seen any reason not to admit Fintiri to bail, pending the determination of the case.

“In view of the above, the defendant is hereby admitted to bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties in like sum.

“The first defendant is not to travel out of the country pending the determination of the case and will remain in prison pending the satisfaction of his bail conditions.”

Fintiri, alongside his company; Mayim Construction and Properties Ltd, were arraigned on June 30 on a five-count charge of money laundering to the tune of
N2.9 billion.

The court had adjourned the case until Oct. 6 for commencement of trial.
