Guardian / Nigeria: As the judicial commission of inquiry investigating the clash between soldiers and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) suspended deliberations, the youth wing of the group yesterday again in Kaduna protested the continuous detention of its leader Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.
Before the panel suspended its sitting, the officer of the Nigerian Army who led the operation against the Islamic group gave an account of the clash with El-Zakzaky’s group.
The officer who gave his name as Colonel A.K Ibrahim, Commander of the One Division Internal Security Force, while testifying before the Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba commission of inquiry in Kaduna, narrated how the troops were attacked with weapons, including local pistols, petrol bombs, swords and matchetes chanting Ya Husseini, Ya Mahdi!” at Gyellesu area around midnight on December 12, 2015 on a mission to arrest El-Zakzaky.
Col. Ibrahim said the group attempted to kill the soldiers as they move towards the residence of their leader whose arrest was a major objective of the operation that lasted till Sunday evening in which Sergeant Dan Kaduna lost his life.
According to him, the group leader was eventually arrested when troops stormed his house in the climax of the battle.
